Since becoming a full time wildlife and nature artist many of his paintings have appeared within and on the front cover of major British and American magazines including BBC Wildlife, The Countryman and Wildscape to name but a few. His original works have sold in auctions and are sought after by collectors in Europe, America & Australia.
Many of his bird paintings have been licensed to publishers to be used in Calendars, Cards, Diaries and Wooden Jigsaw Puzzles adding still further to the desirability, collectability and value of his published prints and original works. In 2005 Ian was given the Gold Award in an International Wildlife exhibition for his painting entitled, " The Greenfinches Of Lemon Grove" and in the following year his painting "After The Rain" won Best British Wildlife Painting. By 2008 Ian had established himself as one of the top british bird painters in the country and it was at this stage he was approached by the RSPB Royal Society for the Protection of Birds to provide the artwork for their 2009 Calendar. The Calendar has proved so successful for the RSPB that Ian will be providing the artwork for both 2010 and 2011. Of his work Ian says " I try to create photorealistic paintings that go beyond the capability of a photographer, because only in art can you create situations and images that may happen often in nature but are seldom viewed by mankind. My work is about many things, lighting, atmosphere, even storytelling, but above all, my aim is to paint and draw pictures that connect with and wow the viewer. I hope people see my paintings as a chance to own and hang on the walls of their homes a little piece of the beauty and splendor of nature." Ian is inspired by many other artists for different reasons, amongst these are Carl Brendars for the realism and detail in his work, Terry Isaac and Robert Bateman for their landscapes and picture settings and David Shepherd O.B.E for his work in the area of animal conservation and for making modern wildlife art popular.
